1893 Antique Silverplate Equestrian Trophy Pitcher

A late-Victorian silverplate water pitcher in the ornate "Rococo Revival" style — dense floral banding at the neck, a scrolling foliate medallion on the body, and a beaded rim, all hallmarks of American decorative silverplate from roughly 1870–1900.

What sets this piece apart is its story: engraved across the back, it reads "First Prize, Light Weight Hunters, to James S. Watson's Priscilla, 1893." This pitcher was awarded as a first-place trophy at an 1893 horse show, in the "Light Weight Hunter" class — a competition category still used in show hunter classes today — to a horse named Priscilla, owned by James S. Watson. Before cups and bowls became the standard trophy form, pitchers like this one were the prize of choice at the fashionable equestrian competitions of the East Coast gentry.

The base bears a manufacturer's mark — a circular anchor stamp with the pattern number 6154 — consistent with several major American silverplate houses of the era.
