Mole-Richardson Baby Solarspot Vintage Film Lamp | Surveyor Tripod Floor Lamp
Before the digital age of filmmaking, before LEDs and soft boxes, there was Mole-Richardson — and every serious Hollywood set knew the name. This vintage Type 407 Baby Solarspot, serial no. 27842, was manufactured by Mole-Richardson Co. of Hollywood, California, during the Golden Era of film. The Baby Solarspot was an industry standard, used as a key-light, back-light, or kicker where smooth, controlled light from spot to flood was essential — the kind of light that made Katharine Hepburn look like Katharine Hepburn.
Paired here with a handsome surveyor's tripod in warm oak with brass hardware, this piece reads as both artifact and sculpture. The original maroon housing, the ventilated disc back, the spot-to-flood dial — it's all here, beautifully intact. A conversation piece that holds the weight of a hundred forgotten productions.
Floor lamp height, fully adjustable. A singular object for a singular room.
Uses a medium base light bulb (E26). For a piece like this,we suggest a ST19 or ST64 Edison-style bulb in a warm 2200K–2700K tone. The amber glow, the visible filament — it would be completely in keeping with the lamp's era and character.
