MEADOW RUE | Encaustic, Single or Set of Two, 4" X 12"
DETAILS
A quiet field at the turn of the light, held in wax.
Two slender panels catch a meadow at the moment dandelions go to seed. Each began as an encaustic monotype, with soft sky greens melting into warm, buttery yellow and a grassy, mossy ground. The dandelions were formed using flower frogs from the artist's mother's vases, so a family memory is built into the meadow. Slender stalks, some dotted with a pattern maker's wheel, rise through the grasses, and delicate umbels of Queen Ann's Lace, carved by hand into the wax, curl inward. Tiny seed spikes of foxtail grass are made of countless tiny holes pressed into the wax with a potter's tool, filled with pigment, then wiped back so the color settles into each spike and the surface gains depth.
Hang them together as a pair or tuck them into separate corners. Each carries its own piece of the meadow. Warm, luminous and a little nostalgic, they bring the stillness of a late-summer field indoors.
