Vintage Studio Pottery Oval Baker with Ribbon Handles, Signed

A hand-thrown stoneware oval baker from the height of the 1970s–80s American craft pottery movement, found in the Rochester, New York area, a region known for its studio pottery tradition.

What sets this piece apart is its pair of sculptural ribbon handles. Strips of clay were hand-pulled, then folded and looped at each end with real confidence and skill. Inside, an iron-brown glaze drifts over soft oatmeal, broken with warm speckles from the clay body. Two squared-spiral motifs are pressed into the well as the maker's own decorative signature.

The underside is unglazed and signed "Sabia" in flowing script.

It arrives in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or wear, which is uncommon for functional pottery of this age. Serve bread or fruit from it at a harvest table, or display it as the handmade object it is.
